Caltrac, Hastings Deering’s New Caledonia dealership has launched a new state-of-the art facility in Païta, New Caledonia, that will expand on existing services in the country.

Caltrac has been operating in New Caledonia for over 40 years and as part of the Hastings Deering group since 2000.

Caltrac’s Directeur Général, Michele Verges, said the new facility is on the cutting-edge of machinery facilities not just in the South Pacific, but worldwide.

“We are one of the leading commercial entities in New Caledonia and deeply involved in the business life of the region.

“This new facility means that Caltrac now provides and services the full range of Caterpillar equipment from mini excavators to off-highway trucks. It provides Caltrac with access to an unparalleled range of equipment types and classes.

“The new facility features six operational bays as compared to two in the previous facility, allowing for greater capacity to work on machines more efficiently as well as concurrently.

“It is also located closer to mine sites, giving quicker response times and less travel for clients, as well as being next to New Caledonia’s primary highway, making machinery and goods transport easier and quicker.

“Most importantly, however, is the bigger picture. With this new facility, Caltrac now has the ability to sell, service, rent and support the complete range of Caterpillar machinery and technology used in the mining, construction, forestry, agricultural, materials handling and government sectors,” Mr Verges said.

A number of factors are driving New Caledonia’s growth including a strong nickel price, and news of a significant boost in infrastructure spending across the country.

“As we produce 25% of the world’s known nickel resources, this puts us in a strong position for future growth,” he said.
